New York City food
Living in a multicultural metropolitan city comes with its perks, especially when it involves tasting all kinds of food. Not surprisingly, the Big Apple isn't one to contract a diverse food culture either.
Some of the foods that New York is famous for may be local to every state in the US, but they're original to the city in how they're made and served.
Cheesecake
Creamy and decadent, NY Cheesecake is one of the city's most popular desserts. Although the cheesecake may look a little bland from the outside, we assure you that it will not disappoint at first bite.
One of the most popular spots is Junior's Restaurant in Brooklyn, serving New Yorkers since the 1950s. You can also try their deli sandwiches, steak burgers, and fish before ending the course with cheesecake.
Another popular bakery known for its cheesecakes is Mah Ze Dahr in the West Village. This bakery adds its own special twist to the classic cheesecake recipe, making the place stand out. They add lemon zest and cover the cheesecake with a dark chocolate crust that we're sure you'll enjoy.
Pizza
Thin-crust pizza is New York's signature dish and prides locals on its thin-even-hungry sign. You can get a first-hand experience at Scarr's Pizza, a vintage parlor on the Lower East Side. The ingredients they use are natural, including their alcohol and recyclable pizza boxes. Don't try to pass this place up as there is no other pizza place in town without a hint from the outside.
If you're looking for something more nostalgic, Di Fara Pizza in Brooklyn is a corner pizzeria where people line up for hours to eat. Each of their pizzas is prepared by owner Domenico DeMarco who is 82 years old. Today, this place is one of New York City's most famous pizzerias thanks to the help of Domenico's children.
Hot dog
It wouldn't be a complete list without New York's trademark, the hot dog. Although hot dogs are considered street junk food, New Yorkers may be surprised at how well they can master them.
One place you must go for hot dogs is Liebman's Kosher Deli, a Jewish deli in the Bronx. This place has been serving its famous beefy hot dog since 1953. The coleslaw and potato salad toppings at the New York Times covered family business are worth trying.
